COVID-19 techniques at Otero County jail prompt detainee hunger strike

ALAMOGORDO — For months detainees at Otero County Detention Middle complained of unsafe COVID-19 techniques in just the facility.

Detainee Eli Addington spoke with the Las Cruces Sunlight-News on Thursday from inside the Otero County Detention Centre (OCDC), and claimed virtually half of the facility’s 150 inmates analyzed positive for COVID-19.

“We’re actually becoming denied any form of healthcare procedure. At any time we see the news or anything at all about COVID on Tv set, it is really clinic rooms, doctors or nurses. Just about every other working day or so, we’ll get a 50 percent a glass of Gatorade. They are providing us natural vitamins, Melatonin to aid us sleep each individual night and they give us Vitamin D and some Zinc, but other than that, we’re remaining denied any other health care remedy, and which is the genuine stress,” he said.
